A company based on Long Island issued a recall of a variety of its cream cheese flavors distributed in the New York City area after a potential contamination involving an organism that can lead to deadly infections.
Made Fresh Salads, Inc. announced on Friday that its cream cheese had been recalled after possibly being contaminated with listeria monocytogenes, which can cause serious or even fatal infections in young children, older individuals or those with a weakened immune system, according to a company announcement. A listeria infection can make otherwise healthy people very sick — leading to fever, severe headaches, nausea and more — and can lead to miscarriages or stillbirths among pregnant women.
No illnesses have yet been reported.
The recalled products were distributed in five-pound white tubs with the Made Fresh Salads label and an expiration date through Feb. 27, 2026, the company said. More than a dozen varieties of the cream cheese were impacted by the recall, including:
- Apple Cinnamon cream cheese
- Caramel Apple cream cheese
- Blueberry cream cheese
- Garlic & Herb cream cheese
- Jalapeno cream cheese
- Jalapeno Cheddar cream cheese
- Lox cream cheese
- Scallion cream cheese
- Strawberry cream cheese
- Sundried Tomato cream cheese
- Vegetable cream cheese
- Walnut Raisin cream cheese
- Whipped cream cheese
- Tofu whipped
The recall stemmed from a sample taken from a mixer used in the manufacturing process that tested positive for a listeria contamination. The mixer has since been removed from service.
In 2024, there was a deadly outbreak of listeria food poisoning tied to a massive recall of popular Boar’s Head deli meats.
Customers who bought the impacted cream cheese products can return it to where it was purchased for a full refund, or can reach out to the company at 1-718-765-0082.
