Want to nail a movie star mani? It’s easier than you think.
Emily Blunt’s “The Devil Wears Prada 2” beauty looks absolutely slayed (along with the rest of the cast’s). But it wasn’t all just good skin care and glam.
Blunt’s manicurist, Julie Kandalec, recently revealed on Instagram how they collaborated on a dedicated look for her Emily Charlton character, using thoughtfully curated nail colors that felt true to the fictional Dior exec.
In one much-discussed scene, Emily is seen wearing eye masks and a stunning Tiffany & Co. aquamarine and diamond necklace set — along with a deep, smoky manicure thanks to Essie’s Always Morphing Nail Polish.
“Emily and I explored dozens of shades,” Kandalec wrote, saying they eventually settled on the mesmerizing color, paired with Essie base and top coats for a lasting seal.
After the glowing recommendation, I literally ran out and purchased this color, bewitched by the star manicurist’s promise of a “deep, near-black brown with the softest shimmer threaded through it, that catches the light.”
It’s true, the color is gorgeous; striking like black, but so much more lively.

Though Blunt wears Always Morphing in many scenes, the duo also switched it up for other sartorial pairings.
“For the scene where Emily is ultra blonde, there was only one answer for her nails: a bold, unapologetic red. There’s something so electric about a classic red nail on a blonde — very Debbie Harry,” Kandalec wrote of the final look of the film.
For a rich red, they picked Essie’s Bordeaux, a universally pleasing deep wine hue that offers a nod to vintage shades.

Many reviews claim it’s a perfect color, with one adding that the polish “lasts a long time.”
Finally, for Emily’s gold ensemble in Milan, Blunt and Kandalec wanted something as “bold and sculptural as her Schiaparelli gown.”

They ended up choosing the metallic Good As Gold, and Kandalec added bits of gold leaf on top before sealing it with a top coat.

Though it sounds a little challenging to apply, the manicure pro says, it’s “really easy to DIY” (and the shimmery flakes come in other colors, too).
Each of Emily’s nail looks was also prepped with Ready.Prep.Go, a cuticle softener, and finished with the line’s Apricot Cuticle Oil for a “Runway-perfect mani,” as Kandalec put it.
Just call it groundbreaking for spring (or any season).
