A 17,600-square-foot Manhattan townhouse — one that had long been owned by the family of former Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin — listed on Friday for a breathtaking $35 million, according to StreetEasy.
The Wall Street Journal first reported news of the big-dollar offering.
Standing at 45 E. 78th St., Mnuchin’s late father — late art dealer Robert Mnuchin, who passed away in 2025 — owned the 15-room residence. He and his second wife, Adriana Mnuchin, bought it for an undisclosed sum in 1983. They resided here for some 12 years, according to the Journal, and Robert used a part of it as an art gallery, which ultimately was known as the Mnuchin Gallery.
The couple moved into this townhouse after their collection of art, including works by Mark Rothko, became too numerous for their nearby co-op unit, their daughter Valerie told the outlet.
The 33-plus-foot-wide edifice spans six stories and includes an elevator. There are nine bedrooms, too.
It all opens to a gracious entry gallery, according to the listing, from Adam Modlin and Andrew Nierenberg of the Modlin Group. The parlor level has two formal entertaining spaces at either end, both of which come equipped with fireplaces.
Up top, a 1,335-square-foot roof terrace crowns the property.
The family spent a year and a half renovating the spread before moving in. In the mid-1990s, however, they moved out as the gallery increasingly grew in size.
“My mom got tired of living over the shop,” Valerie told the Journal.
