Euphoria has reached its end, though it may not have struck as positive of a chord as it did for fans in its previous two seasons.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Euphoria Season 3, now streaming on HBO Max.

Some fans are fuming over what they felt was an “unforgivable” series finale, describing the 93-minute-long episode as “a letdown.”

Series creator Sam Levinson confirmed in an interview on The New York TimesPopcast podcast that Sunday night’s (May 31) Season 3 finale also marked the series finale of the HBO drama, which saw Rue (Zendaya) die of a fentanyl overdose after taking what she thought was Percocet from Alamo (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje).

Nonetheless, some people online took issue with Rue’s death, questioning how such a “terrible ending” could suffice for “a show that is meant to give hope for addicts.”

“HBO should be embarrassed for putting out this season of Euphoria lmfao my god,” one critic wrote.

“on god if you kill off your main character at the end of your series after they went through literal hell … that is shit writing,” another added.

Others felt that Euphoria‘s ending falls into the category of “shows that kill off their main characters, especially ones that have been traumatized and barely given an ounce of happiness,” citing shows like Stranger Things and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

“This trope is so gross,” someone argued. Always women, always struggling with mental health. Fuck yall tbh.”

People also also wondered what the outcomes were for other characters, especially following Nate’s (Jacob Elordi) shocking death in Season 3, Episode 7, “Rise and Shine.” However, some fans felt Rue’s ending was “very realistic” for a drug addict, and praised Zendaya’s performance in her final moments in her Emmy-winning role.

Euphoria Seasons 1-3 are streaming on HBO Max.
