New video from the fan who stormed the court during Game 1 of the NBA Finals shows a different angle of the incident, featuring a smiling Victor Wembanyama.
The 7-foot-4 forward barely fit into the screen as the fan attempted to take a selfie.
The fan ran on the court with 6:28 remaining in the fourth quarter of the Knicks’ 105-95 win and headed toward a confused Wembanyama.
The Spurs star smiled at the fan’s phone once he saw it.
Play stopped briefly before two security guards pushed the fan off the court, as also shown in the video.
“I’ve never been in that situation. I didn’t know how to act. It really surprised me, almost as much as that time [when] a bat crossed the court,” Wembanyama said, referring to a 2024 game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Following the stoppage, the game restarted with a jump ball.
“I don’t think it was an event at all,” Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson said. “I thought security got him out of there. I think everybody moved on to the next play.”
Many took to social media to share their displeasure with the fan for rushing the court.
Some have wondered if the incident was tied to a gambling company or bet, since prediction markets such as Kalshi and Polymarket have offered odds on the likelihood of a court rush happening in the past.
“Someone probably just won stupid money off a fan running onto the court. Weird world we live in,” ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel wrote.
The Knicks pulled away in the last two minutes thanks to an 11-0 run to end the game.
Jalen Brunson had a game-high 30 points after scoring 13 in the fourth quarter.
Wembanyama struggled throughout the game, shooting 29 percent from the field and turning the ball over six times.
“I was bad tonight,” he said. “It’s not more complicated than that.”
After the interaction with the fan, Wembanyama scored seven points, went 2-for-6 from the field and committed two turnovers.
