As the World Cup kicks into high gear, Brazilian soccer legend and official tournament ambassador Roberto Carlos da Silva Rocha — best known simply as Roberto Carlos — has scored a different kind of goal.
Gimme Shelter can reveal that Carlos has just signed a contract to buy two condos at the Viceroy Residences Fort Lauderdale. The Real Madrid icon and legendary defender paid around $5 million for the units.
“Fort Lauderdale has always felt like a natural place for me,” Carlos told Gimme, adding that Viceroy stood out for its “design, privacy, lifestyle component and location that feels connected to everything.”
Of course, he’s also buzzing about the upcoming World Cup.
“As for the games,” Carlos added, “there is already a lot of excitement and attention around what is coming. South Florida has become an important market for the sport, and you can feel how much the game continues to grow. It is always special to see that kind of energy building before a major tournament.”
The 52-year-old footballer will be involved in designing his new home, and combining both units.
The first is a 1,350-square-foot two-bedroom, 2.5-bath spread with a 200-square-foot terrace that asked “in the mid-$2 million range.” The second 1,850-square-foot dwelling comes with three bedrooms and three baths and a 250-square-foot terrace, “asking in the mid $3 million range,” a spokesperson said, adding that Carlos will be living on one of the building’s higher floors.
Design details include 10-foot-high ceilings — plus stunning views of the ocean, the Intracoastal Waterway and the Fort Lauderdale skyline. The first closings are slated for 2030.
The 45-story, 500-foot tower comes with 251 luxury condos. Details include floor-to-ceiling windows, with interiors by Arquitectonica and Rockwell Group.
Building amenities include a spa, a pool, a lounge area, a wine bar, a karaoke room, a VR simulator room, concierge services, social programming and beach club access.
The tower, developed by Naftali Group, is exclusively represented by Douglas Elliman. It will also include a 15,000-square-foot restaurant and private members club from The h.wood Group, the Los Angeles-based hospitality company behind Delilah and The Nice Guy.
