New York City is getting ready for what may be its biggest ticker-tape extravaganza in history, a fete for the Knicks celebrating their long-awaited NBA Championship. Hundreds of thousands may attend.
Street closures and security protocols will be in effect. The NYPD says it intends to announce more of both as the parade approaches. In the meantime, here’s what to know.
Which streets will be closed for Knicks parade?
- Starting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, parking will not be allowed south of Canal. Cars will be towed if they are not removed.
- Starting at 7 a.m. on Thursday, south of Canal Street will be shut down to vehicular traffic from the Hudson River to the East River.
- The FDR and West Side Highway will remain open.
Traffic coming off the Brooklyn Bridge into Manhattan will only be able to go northbound on the FDR. - Pedestrians will be able to use the walkway.
- Staten Island Ferry service will be increased and will run every 15 minutes.
If you live or work in the area, you will be able to access your office building or your home with proper ID.
Any changes to the subway?
Limited public transit impacts are expected.
The following subway stations will close starting at 4:30 a.m. Thursday and reopen following the parade and ceremony at City Hall.

- Fulton (4,5,J,Z,2,3)

What should I know about security?
All attendees will be screened. Pens will open at 6 a.m. No bags are permitted.
