A mother of two was found dead with her neck slashed inside her Brooklyn home early Saturday morning, according to the NYPD.
What otherwise would have been a quiet weekend morning in Bay Ridge was suddenly disrupted by the large presence of police on 85th Street. The NYPD’s Crime Scene Unit devoted hours on Saturday to a multi-unit building where officials said the body of a 36-year-old woman was found unconscious and unresponsive.
Officials later identified her as Maria Santos Flores, a mother of two.
Police said she was found with a laceration on her neck shortly after 9 a.m. EMS declared her dead at the scene.
“I would never expect anything like that to happen around here,” neighbor Angelica Morales said.
Neighbors couldn’t say enough about how unusual it was to watch a death investigation play out in their tranquil slice of Bay Ridge. Resident Dawn Fox said it made her question her own safety.
“It’s just awful. Like, I feel like I’m dreaming the whole thing. And I see the family crying,” she told NBC New York.
Members of the woman’s family confirmed she was a mother to two kids and said they had no idea what could have led to her death.
Police have not confirmed how Santos Flores died. There have been no arrests.
