If you love a mystery full of twists and turns, I Will Find You is for you.
If you’re not familiar, the Netflix show focuses on David Burroughs (Sam Worthington), a convict who has spend the past five years imprisoned, after he was found guilty of killing his son, Matthew. However, David’s fate takes a turn after Rachel (Britt Lower), his sister-in-law, suspects David’s son might be alive after finding a photo of a young child that looks identical to Matthew. After hearing the news of Matthew, David escapes from prison and goes on a journey to find his son.
It’s one of those rare limited series that will have you questioning everyone and everything on screen. Many have been wondering: Why does I Will Find You feel different? Is it possible the show is based on a true story?
Is I Will Find You Based on a True Story?
While the news may be disappointing, the show is not based on a true story.
Although the show’s shocking twists are entertaining, the content is not based in any truth. However, the reason the show might feel so real is thanks to its source material.
That’s right. The show is an adaptation of Harlan Coben‘s novel.

According to Coben’s website, his #1 New York Times bestselling book follows “an innocent father serving life for the murder of his own son receives evidence that his child may still be alive, and must break out of prison to find out the truth.”
If you haven’t had the chance to crack open the beloved book, don’t fret. Star of the show, Logan Browning, exclusively told DECIDER she opted not to read the novel during production. She explained, “I didn’t read the book, because everyone kept saying that my character was so different from the book. Maybe now I’ll do it. But I really wanted to honor what was on the page in front of me.”
