After narrowly avoiding elimination in the Round of 32, Lionel Messi and Argentina arrive in the Round of 16 to face Mo Salah and Egypt.
The defending World Cup champions enter today’s match as favorites, as they have in every match thus far. In the Round of 32, La Albiceleste took an early lead with a Messi goal, but Cape Verde tied things up. In stoppage time, Cape Verde scored again to take the lead, but Argentina quickly answered back and in the end, pulled ahead on a Cape Verde own goal.
Egypt also had a tricky path to the Round of 16. Tied at the end of extra time against Australia, the Pharaohs advanced 4-2 on penalty kicks to secure the country’s first-ever win in the knockouts.
