Igor Shesterkin is headed to the injured reserve.

The Rangers’ goaltender went down with a scary-looking injury to his lower body during the first period of Monday night’s loss to the Mammoth.

Shesterkin fell awkwardly as Utah’s J.J. Peterka drove to the net, though it didn’t look as if the Mammoth player had made much contact with the goaltender.

The Russian netminder going on IR points to a better scenario than long-term injured reserve, which would shelve him for a minimum of 10 games.

The Rangers will continue to evalute Shesterkin.

“He’s an important part of this team,” head coach Mike Sullivan told reporters Monday night. “We hope it’s not too serious.”

The news comes with an added blow as Adam Fox will also be placed on LTIR.
