New York City officials suspended alternate side parking rules until Sunday to facilitate snow removal operations across the five boroughs, according to the mayor’s office.

The alternate side parking rules, which allow the city to clean the streets, will be out of commission until Sunday, February 8, the city’s Department of Transportation announced Tuesday. Metered parking will remain in effect throughout the city.

New Yorkers are advised to clear snow from their vehicles, as temperatures are expected to drop later in the week.

A winter storm hit the tri-state area in late January, bringing snow and freezing rain. It was the same storm that affected nearly half of the United States.

The storm created hazardous road conditions, impacting transportation, including public transit in the area.

When alternate side parking is suspended, drivers must still observe all other posted parking restrictions and regulations.
