Red Bull New York is finalizing a deal to sign American goalkeeper Ethan Horvath, shoring up what had been one of the club’s most pressing needs going into the preseason, The Post confirmed.

Horvath will join the club from English Football Championship side Cardiff City, where he’s made 97 appearances. He also brings international experience with 10 caps for the U.S. Men’s National Team since making his senior team debut in 2016.

The Athletic first reported news of the deal.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper played the first half of the English football season on loan for Sheffield Wednesday, and has spent time with Nottingham Forest and Luton Town during the course of his career.

Horvath has also played in Norway and Belgium.

The arrival of Horvath in Harrison, N.J., likely answers the question of who would start in net for RBNY this season after the club let Carlos Coronel walk in free agency

Late-season acquisition John McCarthy is an option in goal for Red Bull New York as well, and the club has Aidan Stokes and AJ Marcucci in its system.

Head of Sport Julian de Guzman suggested that the club was “fairly close” to figuring out its plan in goal for the upcoming season earlier this month during a press conference at Sports Illustrated Stadium.

The club began its preseason schedule on Wednesday with an exhibition match against USL League One side Sarasota Paradise in Florida.

Red Bull New York is going through a transition with de Guzman and newly installed head coach Michael Bradley fully in control

Horvath is the latest addition to the club during a busy offseason, which has included bringing in Cade Cowell, Robert Voloder and Justin Che.

De Guzman also shipped out star Lewis Morgan and mainstays Daniel Edelman, Sean Nealis and Peter Stroud.

The new Red Bull head coach said during media availability Thursday that the club was looking at its roster and “always evaluating every single day.”

“Absolutely, we’re in constant discussion to figure out the best ways to make our team better, to make our team more complete. That will always continue,” he said.

RBNY is slated to play five more preseason matches before they open the regular season on the road in Orlando.
