One of the world’s richest men has doubled down in Malibu.
Google co-founder Sergey Brin has purchased a $50 million home in Malibu just doors away from a another residence he owns, Gimme Shelter has learned.
The purchase comes even as the Google co-founder moved a reported 15 of his limited liability companies, which manage his investments and assets, out of California ahead of the proposed California billionaire tax.
This cliffside home first hit the market for $65 million in 2024 — just two years after the seller bought it for $20.75 million in 2022. It was last asking $58 million in December, according to records.
The two-story dwelling comes with coveted private stairs to Point Dume Beach — and a key to Little Dume — “the two best surf point breaks in all of Malibu,” according to a listing for the property.
The sale, which closed in July, was first reported by North Hillcrest. Branden Williams, Rayni Williams and Preston Gazowny, of the Beverly Hills Estates, had the listing. They declined to comment on the buyer.
Gimme Shelter independently confirmed the buyer.
The area is filled with billionaires and creatives. Those include Bob Dylan and Coldplay’s Chris Martin, to tech titans like Sean Parker. There are also actors like Matthew McConaughey, Gerard Butler and Julia Roberts.
“The surf breaks in front of their homes. It’s where they all learn to surf, and it’s why these guys all live here — the private surf breaks,” said Branden Williams, who declined to comment on the buyer.
While there are no private beaches in California, Point Dume is difficult for outsiders to access.
Brin’s new Malibu home is just a few doors down from his current $35 million midcentury-modern manse on the same street, bought in 2023. Chris Cortazzo of Compass, had that listing.
The homes can’t be combined, because of the property that sits between them. “He will likely use the smaller house as a guest house and move into the bigger one,” a source said.
At the time that Brin purchased the first home, it was dubbed Brin’s “bachelor” pad, because he bought it just three months before he filed for divorce from his then-wife, attorney Nicole Shanahan
The new Mediterranean-style villa, built in the 1980s, was refurbished to create a more contemporary-style farmhouse vibe. The 8,000-square-foot estate sits on 1 acre. There are ocean views, a guest house and coveted parking spots. In sum, there are five bedrooms, six baths, and two powder rooms.
The main bedroom suite has a wood-paneled wall and a fireplace, as well as a morning bar, a sitting area, sloped ceilings, a skylight, a spa-like bath and a balcony.
The home also comes with a home theater, and a spa space with hot and cold plunges.
In addition, there’s a sunlit, open chef’s kitchen with slatted skylights, a breakfast bar — and a step-down living room with a vaulted ceiling, a fireplace and three walls of picture windows. Sliding glass doors open to a wrap terrace with an alfresco dining space next to a pool. A wooden-barrel sauna with ocean and coastline views is nearby on the landscaped lawn.
Point Dume’s newest residents also include Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff, who moved from Brentwood, after buying an $8.15 million ranch-style, four-bedroom home in late December.
