A meddling neighbor got KO’d in the first round after challenging a famous boxing gym to a fight.
One newcomer to New York learned we’re not kidding about the whole “city that never sleeps” thing when she took a temporary West Village rental above the Gotham Gym, beloved of Hailey Bieber, Kendall Jenner, Hugh Jackman, Bella Hadid and more. And she saw stars when she learned that the spot starts playing music (cue the “Eye of the Tiger”!) at 6.30am.
Amazingly, even though the light-sleeping visitor is just passing through the city and bunking at a short-term rental above the gym, she called the cops, Page Six and the mayor’s office to complain!
“Several residents on the second floor above the gym are being awakened [by loud music] at 6:30 a.m…. The music keeps getting louder,” she said on Page Six’s tip line last week.
“People are paying a lot of money and didn’t realize [they’d be living] above a combat gym,” they added.
Studios start at $5,113 per month and a 663 sq. ft. one bedroom goes for up to $8,759.
A spokesperson for building management told us, “the resident is leasing an apartment at 600 Washington through a supplier of short-term furnished rentals.”
Another source familiar with the situation said, “[The gym has] been doing their business there the same way for 15 years, and she just moved in. She emails them daily. She’s called the police, who came in and said [the music] is fine. And now I guess she’s calling Page Six,” the source, who asked for anonymity, told us.
Another insiders told us she’s since placed calls to Mayor Mamdani’s office.
Our source told us the gym has been bending over backwards to accommodate the new tenant, including forking out thousands of dollars to adjust their audio. “They’ve done more than they have to… but they’ve had a good relationship [at the address] for 15 years,” they said.
We’re told the volume on the music was so low during a recent workout, that “it felt like a library.”
A rep for Gotham did not get back to us.
