Former hockey pro Wayne Gretzky has sold the enormous Florida mansion he bought from his son-in-law, golfer Dustin Johnson, for a very hefty profit—offloading the elegant waterfront abode for $6.42 million.
Gretzky, 65, who spent 20 years playing in the NHL, bought the extraordinary dwelling from Johnson, who is married to the hockey star’s supermodel daughter Paulina Gretzky, for $4.5 million in 2022—around six years after Johnson purchased the property for $2.9 million.
At the time, Gretzky and his wife, Janet, had just relocated to the Sunshine State from California to be closer to their children and grandchildren, having sold their stunning Westlake Village mansion for $17.6 million in 2021.
However, the couple spent less than four years living in the enormous North Palm Beach property before putting it back on the market in November 2025, with an initial asking price of $8.99 million, according to records—nearly double what they paid for the dwelling.
But they would face a difficult time finding a buyer, prompting them to lower their price to $7.8 million in March 2026, with the dwelling soon going under contract.
Now, Realtor.com® can exclusively reveal that Gretzky and his spouse accepted an offer of more than $1 million less than their latest asking price, with records showing that the dwelling sold for $6.42 million on June 1.
Some might argue that the buyer scored quite an impressive deal for the dwelling, which offers five bedrooms, six bathrooms, and more than 7,100 square feet of living space, as well as 90 feet of private Intracoastal Waterway frontage.
Inside, the property opens with a spectacular double-height great room that features a wall of windows overlooking the swimming pool and the waterway—as well as an enormous fireplace and chandelier that add an elevated ambiance to the space.
A dramatic staircase leads up from that room to a balcony, from which several of the bedrooms can be accessed, including the “oversized primary suite,” which boasts its own private balcony overlooking the water.
Elsewhere on the main floor, there is a “chef’s kitchen” with an oversized island ideal for casual dining, as well as a breakfast bar that overlooks a cozy family room, with French doors that open to the outdoor dining area.
A sweet dining nook in this space offers yet another perfect place for a laid-back meal, while more upscale occasions can be hosted in the formal dining room, which boasts a dramatic chandelier at its center, as well as windows that can be shuttered for extra privacy.
Another, much cozier den space rounds out the list of communal living spaces on the main floor—where an elevator offers easy access to the upper levels.
Multiple entertaining spaces can also be found outside, including a covered loggia with a “built-in summer kitchen,” as well as a backyard living space with a fire pit.
A dazzling swimming pool and built-in spa overlook the waterway, which can be accessed via the property’s private dock.
While it’s unclear whether Gretzky and his spouse have plans to move into another North Palm Beach abode, they seem likely to remain in the area, given that the former hockey pro and his son Ty Gretzky launched their hockey camp in Palm Beach Gardens.
The hockey camp, which is part of the duo’s Gretzky Hockey School company, takes place at the Palm Beach Gardens IcePlex, which is conveniently located just a few minutes’ drive from another Florida property that Gretzky owns, a much more modest five-bedroom abode that he snapped up for $1.58 million in 2021.
Meanwhile, Johnson and his spouse—who share two children—relocated to a stunning 10,100-square-foot Jupiter, FL, mansion, which they picked up for $14 million in 2021, not long before selling their former dwelling to Gretzky.
Their new dwelling offers ample room for their family of four, featuring five bedrooms, 7.5 bathrooms, and a wealth of enormous living spaces, including a double-height great room and a chef’s kitchen.
When the couple purchased the home, which is located in the upscale community of Admirals Cove, it was newly renovated, with the listing describing it as a property that would “take your breath away.”
Gretsky and Johnson are known to enjoy a very close relationship that has seen the hockey legend serving as something of a mentor to the LIV Golf player for many years.
In fact, in a 2022 Q&A session on her Instagram account, Paulina revealed that her father knew as soon as he met Johnson that the golfer was the man she was meant to marry.
When asked by a follower what her father’s first impressions of Johnson were, Paulina responded: “He told me I should marry him.”
The model followed her father’s advice closely in 2013, when she and her partner got engaged—although it would be nine more years before they actually married, tying the knot in a stunning ceremony held at the exclusive Blackberry Farm in Tennessee in April 2022.
Following the ceremony, Paulina shared some other words of wisdom she had received from her father about romance in general.
“The best dating advice I ever received was from my dad. He told me to weigh the pros and cons of dating someone,” she revealed on Instagram.
“If there are few cons and many pros, then don’t rule them out right away. If the cons outweigh the pros, then don’t try to be the person who thinks they can change them.”
