He walks around with hatchets. He bangs on doors. He walks around naked.
Tenants of an apartment building in the Bronx’s Williamsbridge neighborhood say they’re afraid to leave their units because of the man, who they say is consistently roaming their hallways and menacing people.
One neighbor captured video through a peephole of Anthony Orozco standing outside the door, armed with a hatchet.
Wearing a wig, Orozco yells “Open your door!” in Spanish as he holds up the weapon.
“Whatever he can find in his hands, he’s going to use it to bang down your door,” tenant Alexandra Reina said. “How can we live with somebody like that?
Leonia Clemente called the police when the man started swinging at her door with a hammer. He was taken away in handcuffs, again wearing a wig, most recently last month.
“It’s always scary to leave my house. I always have to look out the door both ways,” Clemente says. “It’s every day, you never know what’s going to happen.”
She has a temporary court-granted protection order against the man.
Tenants say the harassment has gone on for years. Building management says they’re in the process of evicting Orozco. The case is now in the hands of the Bronx Housing Court.
“We need somebody to hear our voice and help us out. Either get him out and get him some help, or he’s gonna do something worse,” Reina said. “He’s going to end up killing somebody.”
Standing at his apartment door, Orozco denied any wrongdoing to NBC New York.
He was charged last August with menacing his neighbors. The status of that case wasn’t immediately clear.
