Every year, a new crop of young hitters arrive with tons of raw power to make batting practice look like the Home Run Derby. The trick for fantasy managers is determining which of those players can, and will, use that power in an actual game.
Jac Caglianone, the sixth pick in the 2024 draft, was called up by the Royals last year with big expectations (especially in the power department) after hitting .308 with 22 homers and a .924 OPS in 95 minor-league games.
Despite elite bat speed, a solid barrel rate and a maximum exit velocity ranking in the top 10 percent of the bigs, nothing clicked. Caglianone hit .157 with seven homers and a .532 OPS in 62 games.
Over his first 27 games, fantasy managers hoping for a breakout this year got an ever-so-slightly better version of 2025 — only with a higher batting average (and strikeout rate). He hit .250 with two homers, four RBIs and a .731 OPS through April.
