A Palm Beach townhouse that upped its price by $6 million after Zohran Mamdani won the New York City mayoral election last fall — seizing on an exodus — has sold for $17 million, Gimme Shelter has learned.
The seller is ex-Marvel CEO Isaac “Ike” Perlmutter.
The oceanfront townhouse at 2 Sloans Curve Dr. — 5 minutes from Mar-a-Lago — ultimately sold for far less than the Mamdani-inspired price hike to $24.95 million.
But it still reveals the strength of the South Florida market, which is benefiting from 1-percenters fleeing Mamdani and a pied-à-terre tax in New York, as well those abandoning a proposed billionaires’ tax in California, said listing broker Margit Brandt, of Premier Estate Properties.
“Palm Beach is having what I believe will be its best year yet, even surpassing the covid activity of 2021 to 2022,” Brandt said.
“All of the places our clients have previously lived are going one direction and Florida is going another,” Brandt said. “Spencer Pratt losing his election in LA was a last straw for many of our clients, just as Mamdani winning in New York was a last straw there.”
The mystery buyer who paid in cash was represented by Ronnie Garcia, also of Premier Estate Properties.
Israel-born Perlmutter — a Six Day War veteran, Trump donor, unofficial Veterans Affairs advisor and philanthropist who donated more than $50 million to cancer research at NYU Langone Medical Center — bought the townhouse with his wife Laura for $10 million in April 2023.
The couple first listed it eight months later for more than double what they paid — $21 million. A year later it was asking $19.9 million. By 2025, it was asking $18.95 million. Then, following Mamdani’s win at the ballot box, the price jumped to $24.95 million, before dropping back to $19.9 million in April.
Built in 1981, the renovated townhouse comes with five bedrooms and 5.5 baths, and it’s part of a gated community.
Inside, it features a chef’s kitchen with double-height ceilings, a formal living room with a skylight and a bar area with custom built-ins — and ocean views from all the main rooms.
A spiral staircase leads to private rooms including a main bedroom suite with a dressing area, two spa-like baths and a covered terrace overlooking the Atlantic.
Amenities for residents include private beach access, tennis courts, a gym, a yoga studio and a conference room, plus a pool and cabanas.
