Matthew McConaughey is known to Kate Hudson as the friend who’s always “down for anything.”
The actress shared rare insight into their friendship during her Time100 panel on Wednesday at Lincoln Center in New York City.
“Matthew is unique. He is the most unique, wonderful, spontaneous, unpredictable man I’ve ever worked with,” she gushed.
“He’s competitive in the best ways. He is so much fun to laugh with. He’s down for anything. I love how unpredictable he is.”
The “Almost Famous” star explained that she relates to that side of the actor because she’s always “down, too.”
“At the same time, he’s really protective,” Hudson continued, sharing the different sides of the Oscar winner that fans don’t see, noting that he is a “great father, a beautiful partner and a family man.”
“He cares deeply about his work, but mostly about the human condition and finding inner peace, or at least contentment. We connect on that very much.”
“Matthew’s a really unique, special person,” Hudson concluded with a smile.
The pair famously played love interests in the beloved 2003 romantic comedy “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.”
Once Hudson landed the role of Andie Anderson, she was the one who suggested McConaughey should play Benjamin Barry.
The duo went on to co-star in the 2008 rom-com “Fool’s Gold.”
In 2024, the singer revealed a funny anecdote about McConaughey’s hygiene — or lack thereof — on set of the film.
During her appearance on “Watch What Happens Live,” host Andy Cohen asked a fan-submitted question about whether she forced McConaughey — who is known to be anti-deodorant — to use some while filming.
Notably, they filmed in Australia during the southern hemisphere’s summer.
“No! He doesn’t wear deodorant,” she replied. “And by the way, I don’t either.”
Hudson also confirmed that he has a distinct scent, and that she could “smell him from … [a mile away].”
