As officials go building-by-building to assess the safety of the midtown neighborhood surrounding the unstable Manhattan high-rise that was once home to the Pfizer offices, we’re learning more about the construction and safety systems in place. NBC New York’s Andrew Siff, Rana Novini and Chris Glorioso report.
The under-construction Manhattan high-rise where buckling columns prompted a frozen zone and emergency evacuations a day ago is considered stable right now, but many evacuation orders remain in place.
The initial 5-block frozen zone area that was in place for much of the day Tuesday shrank by Wednesday, to 42nd and 43rd streets between Second and Third avenues. People who live or work in the area are still allowed access, provided they aren’t trying to get into one of the ongoing evacuation order buildings.
