An arrestee’s designated driver allegedly showed up drunk to pick up his pal, who was being released from police custody after a DWI arrest in upstate New York.
Antone Gilonna, 25, veered into a restricted area in the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office’s public parking lot at the tail-end of his joyride to pick up his friend, according to an MCSO news release.
A deputy sheriff who briefly interacted with Gilonna on site suspected that the designated driver was intoxicated.
Officers administered two sobriety field tests — which the bonehead failed — and he too was placed under arrest for DWI — leaving his pal without the much-needed carpool.
The office didn’t specify Gilonna’s exact test results, but he was charged with driving with a BAC of 0.08% of higher. The legal limit in New York State is 0.04%.
Gilonna was also charged with aggravated unlicensed operation, regular unlicensed operator, and DWI.
He was released that same day and ordered to appear in Glen Town Court at an unspecified date.
Gilonna previously had his New York State Driver’s license revoked for a prior DWI-related conviction and a chemical test refusal, according to the sheriff’s office.
Gilonna isn’t the first idiotic DWI arrest.
On Halloween, an 18-year-old partier was arrested on a DUI charge while dressed as a prison inmate. The Florida police department that nabbed him teased that he “was already dressed for arrest.”
Another Florida man was arrested in July 2025 for plowing his lawnmower down a busy highway while he was under the influence.
