There’s no brotherly love lost here.

The rivalry between the New York Knicks and the Philadelphia 76ers has gone from the hardwood to the grilltop. Across the five boroughs, restaurants are renaming their Philly cheesesteaks — at least for the duration of the the playoff series between the two teams.

At G’s Cheesesteaks on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, a Philly cheesesteak is not on the menu. Instead, their star menu item is now called a “Knicks steak.” But they say they’ve never offered a Philly cheesesteak anyway.

“It’s always been New York or Nowhere. I’m a native New Yorker and, listen, Philly did invent the cheesesteak, but we just perfected it as New Yorkers, that’s what we do,” said Giacomo Pisano, the CEO of G’s Cheesesteaks.

Pisano added that if the Knicks sweep the series against the Sixers, he will offer free cheesesteaks at each G’s location.

It’s not just the city. On Long Island, places like Dario’s are joining in on the fun as well, in some cases making some not-safe-for-work edits to the menu. But that isn’t stopping people from ordering them: The owner said he expected to sell hundreds of the sandwich by the end of the day Wednesday.
