Roger Federer is returning to New York.
The tennis legend will return to the U.S. Open this summer for a one-night exhibition at Arthur Ashe Stadium, marking his first appearance at Flushing Meadows since his final tournament run in 2019.
The event, scheduled for Aug. 25, will see the 44-year-old Swiss icon return to one of tennis’ biggest stages in a celebratory showcase rather than competitive Grand Slam action.
Federer, who retired in 2022 after winning 20 Grand Slam titles, will headline the night alongside former rivals and tennis greats Andy Roddick, Andre Agassi and John McEnroe in a tribute-style exhibition.
Arthur Ashe Stadium was the backdrop for some of Federer’s most dominant years, including his run of five consecutive U.S. Open titles from 2004 to 2008, when he established himself as one of the tournament’s defining champions.
The exhibition is expected to draw a strong crowd at Flushing Meadows, giving fans a rare opportunity to see Federer back on court at the venue where he built much of his Grand Slam legacy.
The U.S. Open is the final grand slam tournament on the tennis calendar and annually draws some of the largest crowds in the sport.
Federer remains one of the most recognisable figures in tennis even after retirement, finishing his career with 103 ATP titles and 310 weeks as world No. 1.
His return adds another nostalgic moment to the U.S. Open.
While no longer competing professionally, Federer continues to carry global appeal, with the exhibition offering fans a chance to revisit one of tennis’s most successful eras.
