As Antifa thugs take an ever-larger role in the siege of ICE’s Delaney Hall detention facility in Newark, it’s increasingly urgent for both the feds and Democrats to confront this cancer — because Antifa threatens them both.
This movement is not about fostering progressive change: It’s about exploiting progressive causes to commit political violence in a war on all social order.
These are the masked, keffiyeh-clad radicals barricading a federal facility, threatening the families of law-enforcement agents, assaulting ICE workers and even harassing garbage-truck drivers.
Antifa’s goal is to make every situation worse, to turn every protest into a riot in hopes of radicalizing both sides of every political disagreement.
These goons helped drive the chaos in Minneapolis earlier this year: One Antifa member, Kyle Wagner, was arrested for calling for the murder of ICE agents.
Last summer, Antifa terrorists staged a violent attack on a Texas ICE detention center, opening fire on officers.
They showed up at last year’s Seattle anti-ICE actions, too, using their signature tactics of setting up barricades and going after journalists documenting their mayhem.
ICE is their focus now, but the causes rotate — they’re also deeply intertwined with the antisemitic protest culture of “Free Palestine.”
Years early, they deployed in force during the 2020 Floyd riots. One member, Michael Reinoehl, murdered a Trump supporter there.
Their roots stretch back to WTO “black bloc” protesters in the 1990s, then ostensibly fighting the global free-trade regime.
For antifa, it’s all one cause: a fight to replace capitalism and liberal democracy with . . . well, really just to tear everything down.
Trump administration moves against it so far are good, like designating chapters of the group based outside the US as foreign terrorist organizations and naming homegrown Antifa as the domestic terror squad it is.
But that’s nowhere near enough.
Why not use the same forensic financial tools behind Vice President JD Vance’s War on Fraud to find out who is funding Antifa and how?
Develop a highly visible multi-agency law-enforcement strategy specifically to surveil and combat Antifa specifically, too.
Thursday’s news that main Justice is going after the names, addresses, and banking info of anonymous anti-ICE posters on Reddit and X could be a good first step.
Just as crucially, Democrats must distance themselves from Antifa immediately — though they first need to stop pretending it doesn’t exist.
Dems from Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) to New York’s own Rep. Jerry Nadler keep insisting the group is a phantasm despite its omnipresence in progressive political scenes.
As bad are New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill and Sen. Andy Kim, who’ve toured the daytime standoff at Delaney Hall in tacit alliance with the night-time rioters.
Antifa’s goons revel in their violence; every cause they back is more of an excuse for it than anything else; Democrats who normalize this madness are enabling the radical takeover of their party.
As the midterms approach, political temperatures will soar and Democrat anti-Trump grandstanding intensify — and Antifa will be there exploiting the anger in the name of burning it all down, no matter how many voters the disorder drives into Republican arms.
The feds need to combat Antifa to protect the general public; Democrats need to confront it to protect themselves.
