King Charles III and Queen Camila are making a four-day trip to the United States later this month, and New York City is one of their stops.
It’s King Charles’ first state visit to the U.S. since he took the crown. Buckingham Palace announced the trip on Tuesday.
The visit starts Monday, April 27, with a trip to Washington, D.C., to meet with President Donald Trump. They’ll have tea time with the first lady and attend a garden party later in the day.
King Charles, accompanied by the Queen, is also set to deliver an address to Congress.
It will be only the second time in history a British monarch has addressed a joint session, following Queen Elizabeth II’s speech at the Capitol during her 1991 state visit.
The royal couple heads to New York two days later for events recognizing the economic and cultural ties between the United States and the United Kingdom. They’ll head to the 9/11 Memorial ahead in recognition of the upcoming 25th anniversary of the terror attacks, and meet with first responders and victims’ families.
They’ll have separate events, too. King Charles will visit a grassroots community organization to mentor kids and young people affected by food insecurity. He’ll also meet with business and financial services leaders.
Queen Camila will attend a literary event and help Winnie the Pooh mark his 100th birthday this year.
Security is expected to be intense. More details on those plans are expected in the next week and a half.
After their day in New York, the royal couple heads to Virginia, where they’ll attend a “block party” to celebrate America250. Post that trip, the king and queen head to Bermuda.
