NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. — Might we have a Met-Area major champion in our midst by the end of the weekend?

That tantalizing possibility is right there on the PGA Championship leaderboard at Aronimink Golf Club for the world to see with 36 holes to play before a champion is crowned.

  • Chris Gotterup, a native of Little Silver, N.J., down by the Jersey Shore, is tied for third at 3-under par after shooting the tournament-low round of 5-under 65 in Friday’s second round.
  • Cam Young, a native of Scarborough, N.Y., in Westchester, favorite son of Sleepy Hollow Country Club and a former Fordham Prep star, is tied for ninth at 2-under after shooting a 3-under 67 on Friday.

We have two players from the New York/New Jersey Met Area inside the top 10 at the PGA with two more rounds to play.

So, you’re saying there’s a chance?
