Walmart shoppers nationwide are being warned to toss certain containers of Parmesan Ranch seasoning after the product was recalled over fears it could be contaminated with salmonella — a bacteria that can trigger serious and sometimes fatal infections.

Blackstone Products, which is based in Providence, Utah, announced the voluntary recall on May 15 after learning that a dry milk powder ingredient used in the seasoning had been recalled by California Dairies, Inc. over possible salmonella contamination.

The affected ingredient was supplied to a third-party manufacturer and later used in Blackstone’s Parmesan Ranch seasoning, according to the Food and Drug Administration.

Salmonella can cause serious illness, particularly in young children, elderly individuals and people with weakened immune systems.

Healthy adults infected with the bacteria often suffer fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

Blackstone said consumers can contact the company at 1-888-879-4610 for replacement products or additional information.
