After a night of tributes to the late John Sterling, the Yankees announced a more permanent one Tuesday.

Beginning May 18, the team will wear memorial patches on the sleeve of its jerseys honoring Sterling, the longtime radio voice who died Monday at 87.

The patch features a microphone above Sterling’s name and will replace the “JS” the Yankees began wearing on the back of their caps Monday night.

Legendary Yankees broadcaster John Sterling died this week. Bill Kostroun/New York Post

The club will continue wearing the “JS” caps through May 17 before adding the uniform patches May 18 against the Blue Jays and wearing them the rest of the season.

Sterling, who retired early in the 2024 season, called 5,426 regular-season Yankees games and 225 more in the playoffs, his iconic calls forever etched into franchise history.

His longtime broadcast partner, Suzyn Waldman, had said Monday she hoped the team would wear an armband or patch.

After their win over the Orioles on Monday night, the Yankees also played Sterling’s legendary “Ballgame over! Yankees win! Thuuuuuuh Yankees win!” over the speakers at Yankee Stadium.

Both Aaron Judge and Aaron Boone said they would like that tradition to continue after the Yankees had done it for a time after Sterling retired.
